The Calhoun Family Legacy
150+ years of achievement, education, and family connection
About Our Family
The Calhoun family legacy started with Missouri McElmurray and Joshua Calhoun, who married in 1885 and raised nine accomplished children in Bibb County, Georgia. The foundation came through Missouri’s father, Laverne “Fox” McElmurray, who established the family’s first 50 acres in the 1870s. Joshua then expanded these holdings significantly, acquiring an additional 250 acres by 1909, plus property in Macon.
Joshua was the son of Noah and Sophia Calhoun, and descendants from both the Calhoun and McElmurray lines continue to connect through family reunions and shared history.
